I have been following Malaysia’s political scene closely for almost 3 years now. Whilst there are a great number of individuals in my family whom have strong roots in UMNO, I do not subscribe in the party’s idealism. Race-based politics may be effective in, desperately, uniting the people back then, but it has been historically approved that such idealism would crumble through time as the case with Hitler’s Nazi and the separated Arab league.
There are also several upheavel of racial tensions in Malaysia, which has manifested itself in the March 8 GE, for which the premier later suggested that BN may move towards having a single-party instead of a coalition of numerous race-based political parties. Then again, there were people who went against this idea, whom claimed that the BN formula has been tested through time, and will still be relevant in the future. I doubt it, on the grounds that race-based politics is forcing oneself to subscribe to the idea of the group they’re born into, not by choice.
We may find that this model may fit in certain places in which the rise and fall of the communities are based on the cohesiveness of the pack. Sabah and Sarawak for example. If you put the idea of unity through idealism on the table, you might be ridiculed, even worst, killed!
… which is why I am working on ‘The Islamic State Project’. This project is a self-journey to understand the tenets of Islam and how Islam could be a unifying force for us Malaysians. I believe in Islam, and I act upon which Islam recommends and avoid actions which Islam forbids.
I believe in God as The Creator of this universe, and I believe that all of His creations have reasons behind its creation. I believe that, to understand the reason of humankind’s creation, God had sent the prophets to teach mankind. I believe that Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet sent down by God, and in order to understand his teachings, I should subscribe to the teachings of the scholars who learnt about this religion.
I subscribe to the ideas of scholars who advocates for the Islamic State project. Thus I hope that may my writings later will help myself and the readers to further understand about this project.
