On Thursday 6th November 2008, I had a meeting with Professor Richard Lisle in Room 2.23C. I had briefly explained him about the MESci Research Project from the EA3008 Research Tutorial module. I have also admitted my interest to work on a project in the field of Structural Geology. Professor Lisle acknowledged this and later expressed that he had an interesting project in mind.
As an introductory for the project, Professor Lisle mentioned that the project is about analysing the stresses which caused for shear movements of the bedding planes in Barry Island. He had also explained that this project may take a few trips to the field, which I believe is essential as well as interesting to collect a handful datasets needed for the research.
Later on, we decided on the date suitable for both of us to have an introductory fieldtrip. It was agreed that we will meet in Barry Island on Wednesday, 12th November 2008. Due to tidal fluctuations, I accompanied Professor Lisle to the Science Library to check on the high and low tide of the day. We found out that the highest tide for the day will be sometime at 3.30pm and the lowest will be at 11.15am. Thus we agreed to meet in Barry Island at 9.00am, which may give us 2 hours before the lowest tide come to look for the best outcrop for data collection.
The meeting took about an hour and fifteen minutes.
We are expected to gather a few datasets during the fieldtrip. Professor Lisle will later explained further on the direction of the project, and the goals that we expect to achieve with this project. It is hoped that this project will add on to the scientific knowledge in the field of structural geology.
